Oakridge Neighbourhood Book Club Launch

SLIDE 1

The Challenge: Low Local Connection

Many residents report feeling disconnected from their immediate neighbours despite living close by. Individual reading is popular across the community, but there is currently no regular, informal space to share perspectives, discover new literature, and build lasting local friendships.

SLIDE 2

The Club Format

Meetings will occur on the first Thursday of every month from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM. Locations will rotate between the Oakridge Community Centre and the patio of Birch Cafe. Genres will alternate quarterly among literary fiction, non-fiction, and local authors, with monthly titles selected by a simple member vote.

SLIDE 3

Launch Plan

Week 1: Distribute flyers at local cafes, libraries, and post notices on neighbourhood forums. Week 2: Open an online registration form to gauge interest and cap the initial cohort at 15 members. Week 3: Announce the inaugural book selection. Week 4: Host the initial kick-off meeting with an introductory icebreaker.

Illustrative Launch Budget

Total estimated initial budget: $120. Breakdown: Community Centre room booking deposit: $50; print flyers and promotional materials: $30; opening night tea, coffee, and light refreshments: $40. Funding to be covered by an optional $10 per-person contribution for the first six months.
