Create an onboarding checklist

Prepare a customer or teammate onboarding checklist around your actual workflow, access needs and first useful result.

Start with the right context.

Onboarding should get someone to a useful outcome without overwhelming them. Decide what must happen first and which optional setup can wait. Access requirements should explain why they are needed.

Prepare a result you can use.

Have your chief organise the checklist into preparation, first session and follow-up. Include an owner and a completion signal for each item. Reuse existing instructions where possible and identify missing documentation.

Review before the next step.

Test the sequence as a new user or colleague. Remove unnecessary access requests and check that links work. A checklist does not provision accounts, grant permissions or guarantee that someone completed a step.

What to bring to your chief

  • Who is being onboarded and their goal
  • Required tools, access and existing materials
  • Owners, timing and completion criteria

Try this task

Create an onboarding checklist for the audience and workflow I describe. Focus on the first useful result, include owners and completion signals, separate required setup from optional steps and flag missing instructions. Do not create accounts or grant access.

Sign in for a written first result before payment setup. Computer work needs an active trial or paid plan and remaining allowance.
