Summarise supplied customer feedback

Group customer feedback into themes while preserving source references, exceptions and the limits of your sample.

Start with the right context.

Feedback themes can help prioritise work, but a small sample is not a survey of your whole customer base. Preserve which comments support each theme and distinguish requested features from the underlying problems.

Prepare a result you can use.

Give your chief redacted notes and ask for themes, representative excerpts and counterexamples. Use source identifiers to trace each finding. Count occurrences only within the supplied sample and list ambiguous comments separately.

Review before the next step.

Read the source comments behind the summary. Repeated comments from one person should not be presented as many independent customers. Do not infer sentiment or business impact that the notes do not support.

What to bring to your chief

  • Feedback notes or approved transcripts
  • The product area and questions to answer
  • Redaction rules and source identifiers
